Manhattan Corporation prides itself on being a responsible and Revolutionary Social Contributor. Over the past 25 years, it has contributed over R5 billion into the Siyancuma Northern Cape economy of South Africa, and over R3 billion into the East Rand economy of Gauteng South Africa. Manhattan has employed in its history over 3 000 personnel at its various operations and supported communities in its area of presence.
Manhattan has initiated various projects to assist the development of historically disadvantaged communities that live or operate in the areas where Manhattan exists.
In 2017, Gravelotte which is part of the Manhattan Corporation Group, has initiated projects in Agriculture, Training and Small Scale Mining in Brakpan, Benoni and parts of Daveyton. These communities house over 200 000 historically disadvantaged residents.
During September 2017, Gravelotte launched a project with Mathome Training and Development (www.Mathometd.co.za), to provide 25 learnership programmes for the surrounding communities. In addition, training has commenced for Gravelotte employees to assist to increase their own education and skills. Gravelotte currently employs over 480 personnel.
The learnership programme for the community is a pilot project which will assist community members to receive a Hard Rock certification and therefore be employable by Gravelotte as well as other mines in the region. In essence the mine has gone the extra mile to take non-skilled unemployed community members, who were more difficult to place, and skill them up so that they become employable.
A programme commenced with a small scale mining company, which is 100% Black Woman Owned where Gravelotte has given portions of its mining permit to be mined on, and assisting the contractor to develop and grow her business. Part of this programme is Funding, Skills Development, Mentorship and developing Black Industrialists in our own community.
From 2009, Manhattan was heavily focused in the Northern Cape with its Client’s and associate company alluvial diamond mining and agricultural projects. Manhattan partnered with the Bucklands community to develop their mining and agricultural projects. The Bucklands community is made up of members residing within the Siyancuma District of the Northern Cape. Bucklands has recently appointed Manhattan Corporation as their exclusive strategic economic development partner.
Manhattan Corporation is committed to building a better life for the members of its community.
